Hilda Marie Kalina

Mrs. Hilda (Moser) Kalina died peacefully at The Grove nursing home on Sunday December 15th in Jacksonville Illinois at the age of 86. Hilda is survived by her children Richard Kalina II of Gardendale AL, Susan (Jim) Young of Godfrey IL, Rodney (Carrie) Kalina of Alton IL, Rhonda Acker of Jacksonville IL and Bart Kalina of Roodhouse IL. Hilda was born on August 6th, 1938, in Guttenberg Iowa to Sumner and Sarah “Sadie” (Pierce) Moser. Hilda was the 9th of 10 children which included Andrew Moser, Ella Handke, Betty Niehaus, Laverne Moser, Jeannine Thiltgen, Elmer (Blackie) Moser, Grace Mann, Hank Moser and Donald Moser. She graduated high school in 1956 at Guttenberg High School, Guttenberg IA and went on to graduate from Illinois Masonic Nursing School in 1959. Hilda married Richard Kalina on November 25th, 1961 in Chicago Il. She started her nursing career in cardiac care then later specialized in anesthesia and became a Certified Registered Nurse of Anesthesia in 1974. She had a long and successful career in nursing over a span of more than 40 years and made many lifelong friendships. Over 9 years in Chicago, the couple welcomed 6 children into their home and over her lifetime had an assortment of beloved dogs. Hilda’s children remember her as a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls and especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play all sports and perform on stage. She enjoyed traveling and spending time in Iowa with her family. She loved playing cards, the organ plus sewing and decorating. She greatly enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren her love of performing music. She leaves twelve grandchildren. Cody Acker (fiancée Mary Prewitt) and Phoebe Dean of Jacksonville IL. Lucy Groner of Sikeston MO. Also included are her 10 great-grandchildren Steven/Sofia Johnson, Sarah/Sadi Chester, plus Lorelai Arnott all of Godfrey IL. Roman, Malcolm (St. Louis MO) and Alexander Scimone Broomfield CO. Anastasia Kalina of Bethalto IL. One great-great grandchild Oaklynn Rose Johnson of Godfrey IL. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Richard, her parents, all brothers and sister and granddaughter Katheryn Kalina. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday December 19th from 10am to 12 pm at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse IL with a reception to follow at Seaton Hall at All Saints Catholic Church in Whitehall IL.
