Ronald S. Burton

Ronald (Ron) Burton, 63, of Jacksonville passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy of living life to the fullest. Ron was born in Carrollton, Illinois on January 8, 1959. He was the son of Ottis and Lauretta Burton. A graduate of Greenfield High School, Ron went on to proudly serve his country as an electrical equipment repairman in the Navy from 1978 to 1981, as a “Devil Dog” on the LHA-3 USS Belleau Wood. In recent years, he had been employed as a machinery maintenance technician at Reynolds. He married the love of his life, Sarah (Riggs) Burton on October 31, 1998 and she survives. He is also survived by one sister, Diana (husband, Pat); three brothers, Norman (wife, Jane); Jesse (wife, Jamie) and Kevin (wife, Linda); mother and father-in-law, Jim and Sue Riggs; brother-in-law, Bill (wife, Joyce); sisters-in-law, Becky (husband, Les); Sam (husband, Gary) as well as an aunt, uncle, 16 nieces and nephews and countless cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beckie. Ron, a self-proclaimed wild child, had few boundaries and found humor in nearly every situation. He never met a stranger and spoke his mind without hesitation – whether it offended you or not. Ron was a remarkably skilled pool player and enjoyed showing off those skills and controlling the table, more often than not. Another of Ron’s passions was his Harley. In the past several years, he and his brother, Kevin, went on several Harley adventures throughout the United States. Despite any pain from his RA, he traveled some of the most treacherous and complicated highways imaginable for a motorcycle. Ron discovered a new hobby in recent years in the world of RC trail crawling. He and his brother would go “crawling” the hottest or coldest of days, returning only when all of the trucks were left inoperable and in need of repair. His free spirit and passion for life make it almost incomprehensible that he has left this world. A funeral service will be held 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A visitation will be held Monday, 4:00 p.m. until time of services.
