Roy Clayton Brogdon

Roy Clayton Brogdon, 92, of Jacksonville went home to be with the Lord peacefully on November 3, 2011. He was born August 26, 1919 in Alexander, the son of William and Minnie Brogdon. Roy is survived by two sons, Roy Jr. (Aleda) Brogdon of Richland, Washington and Aaron William (Julie) Brogdon of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and Virgil; his loving wife Vena Mae; daughter-in-law, Ruth; and grandson, Casey. Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all that knew him. Friends and family alike knew Roy to be one of the most honest and loving men they knew. Everyone went away from Roy richer because of his unique ability to give love and understanding unconditionally. His amazing ability to be hard- working yet light-hearted was an example for all. Roy loved the outdoors where he fished during the summer and hunted in the winter. He really liked visiting with and helping people. There was always a warm greeting, friendly smile, and a story or two to tell. Many people will fondly remember Roy from the different Jacksonville bowling leagues, his work with the Jacksonville CB Club, and fixing up old broken bicycles for friends and the Salvation Army. Roy will be greatly missed by his family and multitude of friends. Special thanks to Karen Proctor who became like a daughter to “Pop” and to Judy Vieira, his neighbor for many years. Both of you were very special to him. While his body is no more, his light, love and spirit remain here with us and he will always be remembered with deep and abiding love. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in the East Cemetery in Jacksonville where Roy will be laid to rest next to his loving wife. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until time of the service at the funeral home.
