Doris Lea Huseman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Doris Lea Huseman left her earthly home and went to her heavenly home on the morning of May 29, 2022. Doris is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Virgil Huseman. They were married on October 5, 1958 in Bluffs, IL. Doris is also survived by her children Lyndell Huseman of Bluffs and daughter Michelle Huseman of Hannibal, MO. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother-Norma (LeRoy “Hap”) Vortman of Bluffs, Joan (Dean) Besaw and Archie Brockhouse, Jr. both of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Louise (Little) Brockhouse, two special sister-in-law’s Connie and Jan Brockhouse, a brother-in-law Lester Huseman and daughter-in- law Teresa Huseman. She has four grandchildren that she loves very much and was very proud of each of them- Derek Huseman of Chapin, Amanda Huseman of Bluffs, Raychel Huseman (fiancée Jesse Hodgson) of Columbia, MO and Ericka Huseman of Bluffs. Also one very special grand dog, Jackson Browne of Hannibal, MO. Jackson loved to visit “Grandma” even though the feeling wasn’t always mutual. Doris was a natural born secretary. She was an accomplished typist, proofreader and took short hand. Writing in short hand is a dying art and Doris loved to show off her talent. You would find notes all over the house written in what looked like little scribbles that only she could read. These talents led to jobs as secretary to Ralph Witthe, Ivan Garrison, the Bluffs School system and lastly the Bluffs Times newspaper office, for Dallas and Elaine Warrum. Near and dear to her heart was the Bluffs Baptist Church where she taught the beginner’s Sunday School class and Vacation Bible School. Her lessons often included a flannel graph board and figures. When Bess Bruce began “Mission Friends” on Wednesday evenings, Doris provided the crafts that went with the lessons. She would spend hours preparing crafts for the kids. Always wanting to keep busy, Doris was a talented baker, seamstress, knitter and crafter. She could hold a conversation while knitting and “never drop a stitch”. Her Christmas candies, Red Velvet cake and apple danish were famous throughout the family. Having survived breast cancer, she knew the importance of support during and after treatment. She would send cards of encouragement to others that were fighting the same battle. Especially close to her were friends Debbie Rose, Alexa Rogers and the late Pam Davis. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery near Bluffs. A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Meredosia/Bluffs Rescue Squad and Carmi Children's Home.
