Duwayne Larry "Bear" Atwood

Duwayne Larry “Bear” Atwood, 66, of Murrayville passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. Johns’ Hospital in Springfield. He was born July 22, 1944 in Patterson, the son of Francis and Mildred Hubler Atwood. He graduated from Carrolton High School in 1962. After graduation he joined the army for three years. After the army he worked at Olin in East Alton for thirty eight and half years, retiring in 2006. Duwayne married Violet Edwards of Murrayville. Together they have three children; Larry (Crissey) Atwood of Jacksonville, Kevin Atwood of Murrayville, and Janet Atwood of South Roxanna, eight grandchildren: Nathan Atwood, Dean (JoAnn) Atwood, Nick Atwood, Katie (Jason) Ventress, Amanda Atwood, Megan Atwood, Michael Atwood, and Jerad Wilkinson, three great-grandchildren: Heaven Wilkinson, Marshal Thompson, and T.J. Ventress, and one step grandchild, Joe Palmer. Surviving are six brothers and three sisters; Francis Atwood, Dee Pruitt, Paul (Ruth) Atwood, Virgil (Marcella) Atwood, Clarence (Mary) Atwood, Donald (Marcia) Atwood, Linda Holdaway, Isabell Kelly and Melvin Atwood. Proceeding in death are his parents, one brother, Glenn Atwood, and one sister, Alice Atwood. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Richwood Cemetery near Roodhouse. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Murrayville.
