Fred “Gene” E. Evans, 87, of Bluffs passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home in Bluffs. He was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Pike County, the son of George and Lela Neff Evans. He married Louise Hoots, May 28, 1950, in Winchester. She preceded him in death, Nov. 10, 2010. Surviving are eight children, Wanda (Audrey) Gregory of Bluffs, Richard (Norma) McDade of Ft. Myers, FL, Robert Evans, Roger (Martha) Evans, David (Beverly) Evans all of Bluffs, Sonnie Evans of Winchester, Danny (Sue) Evans of Bluffs, and Thomas Evans of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Paul (Phyllis) Evans of Chapin; 2 sisters, Eloise (Pete) Butkavich of Alton and Wilma Weder of Winchester. He was preceded in death by 2 granddaughters, Marsha Kay McDade and Cindy Rueter; and grandson, Chad Heaton; great-grandson, Josh Rueter; 4 brothers, Gary, Harold, Herbert, and George K. Evans; and 3 sisters, Mildred Smith, Katherine Pagels, and Mary Jane Lawshe. Gene was a proud member of the Illinois Federation of Hunting Dogs. He enjoyed his fox pen, hunting, and farming. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved watching the games on T.V. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery near Bluffs. Visitation will be Sunday with family meeting friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Hospice or the Meredosia-Bluffs Rescue Squad.
