Glenn E. Mason ,90, of Jacksonville formerly of Murrayville, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born, March 17, 1928, in Jacksonville, the son of James B. and Ethel Whitlock Mason. Glenn married Eleanor Marie Lael, June 14, 1953, in Jacksonville. Surviving is his wife, Eleanor Mason of Jacksonville; children, Gordon (Cheri) Mason of Murrayville and Joyce (Jeff) Jacobs of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Andrew Mason, Ashleigh (Harvey) Sorrell, Amie (Will) Tannahill, Jill Jacobs and John Jacobs; great grandchildren, Briella and Mason Sorrell, Marllie and Blake Tannahill, one great grandchild arriving in Feb. of 2019; and brother, Norman (Adella) Mason of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Brown. Glenn graduated from Murrayville High School and Brown Business College. As a young man, Glenn worked with his parents in the family grocery store and drove the bus for the Murrayville school children. Following his father’s retirement, Glenn and Eleanor operated the family market. In 2013, Mason’s Market closed its door and Glenn retired after 70 years of working in a business he loved. Glenn was dedicated to his beloved town of Murrayville; often calling it “the garden spot of the world”. He served as Murrayville’s city clerk for several years, was a town board member and volunteered on the Murrayville fire department. Glenn was always a positive thinker, never seeing anything but good in people. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in South Jacksonville with interment in the Murrayville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, with family meeting friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Murrayville/Woodson EAS.
