Hubert W. Stephenson

Hubert W. “Bill” Stephenson, 77, of Alexander passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his home. He was born Feb. 26, 1937, in Jacksonville, the son of Hubert and Lennie Reynolds Stephenson. He married Catherine Marie Critchelow, Nov. 23, 1963 in Alexander. Surviving are his wife, Catherine, of Alexander; sons, Stacey of Alexander; Tracey (Coni) and Stuart (fiancée, Peggy) both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Bailee, Kourtnee, Drake, Lacie, and Trevor; four brothers, Lloyd (Martha) Stephenson of Joliet, Bud (Faye) Stephenson of Sevierville, TN, Frank and Kenneth Stephenson both of Jacksonville; and two sisters, Audrey Buchanan, Lorraine Brant both of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Wendell Stephenson, Anna Lee Maki, Gladys Ridele, Velma and Flossie Stephenson, Pauline Letiff, and Bessie Walker. Bill was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and attended the church of the Visitation in Alexander. He retired as a custodian from the North School in Jacksonville, where among other duties, he painted back drops for school programs. Bill enjoyed sketching, painting horses and old buildings, carving wood, playing the piano, and picking his banjo. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville with interment in the Jacksonville East Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 4:45pm at the funeral home.
