James R. “Babe” Brown, 77, of Winchester passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at his residence. He was born, Mar. 10, 1940, in Winchester, the son of James Ralph and Audie Frances Smith Brown. Surviving are five children, Traci (Ed) McGrath of Oklahoma City, OK, Jim (Cynthia) Brown of Lake St Louis, MO, Bradley Brown of Winchester, Bryan Brown of Hillsborough, NC, and Jason (Sherrie) Brown of Springfield MO; nine grandchildren, Ryan McGrath, Evan McGrath, Logan Mcgrath, Ashton Brown, Chase Brown, Timber Allenbrand, Hunter Brown, Brady Brown and Abagail Brown; four siblings, John (Wanda) Brown of Winchester, Marie Todd of Jacksonville, Wanda Hammon of Chatham, and Mary (David) Tribble of Winchester. Preceding him in death were four brothers, Harold Brown, Herschel (surviving wife, Frances Brown of Winchester), Herbert Brown, Merle (surviving wife, Julie Brown of Jacksonville); and two sisters, Fern Louise Brown and Virginia Wisdom. Babe was a dedicated farmer, spending long hours working the ground he loved so much. Before devoting himself to farming, he owned and operated his own trucking business. Babe loved being outdoors working, mushrooming, deer hunting, enjoying nature. Above all he, loved his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2017, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in the Winchester City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday after 3:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.dawsfuneralhome.com.
