John David Palmer Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John David Palmer Sr., 72, of Alsey went to be with his Lord late Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born Oct. 25, 1938, the son of William Harold and Loretta Day Palmer. He married Rosalee Malin Mar. 14, 1958 in White Hall. She preceded him in death May 30, 1996. Surviving are five children, John D. Palmer Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, Tammy Sue “Susie” (fiancé, Brad Zeller) Basham of Alexander, Mike (Beverly) Palmer of Griggsville, Terry (fiancée, Tracey Guy) Palmer of Tallahassee, Fl., and Gary (Wanda) Palmer of Pittsfield; one brother, Harold (Speedy) Palmer of Alsey; four sisters, Jean Coleman and Barb Ruble both of Jacksonville, Grace Baird of Alsey, and Chris Little of Winchester; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Michael Palmer; one brother, Bill Palmer; and three sisters, Pat Palmer, Susan Lashmett, and Kay Palmer. The Alsey Brick Refractory employed John for 32 years. He was a member of the Alsey Baptist Church and a Navy veteran. When in high school he quarterbacked for the Winchester Wildcats in 1956-57. He led his team to a winning season where they were never forced to punt nor was ever defeated. John was an accomplished songwriter. He loved and believed in his music. John loved going to “church” at Ed & Woody’s in Florence every Sunday. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in the Bowers Cemetery near Alsey.
