Shirley I. Cox, 78, of Winchester passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at her residence. She was born Nov. 30, 1935 in White Hall, the daughter of Charles and Emma White Roberts. She married Kenneth T. Cox Aug. 3, 1954 in Winchester. He proceeded her in death Sept. 2, 2010. Surviving are her children, Sharlene Smith, Kenetta (Richard) Gregory, and Sheila (Tim) Brown all of rural Winchester; grandchildren, Miranda Smith, Kenneth (Shanna) Smith, Patrick (Maria) Smith, Tyler (Alicia) Gregory, Eli and Emma Brown; three great grandchildren, Hunter Smith, and Easton Smith, and Addison Gregory; one brother, Donald (Anna May) Roberts of Greenfield. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Smith; two brothers, Earl White and Delmar Roberts; and two sisters, Geneva Whewell and Betty Witthuhn. Shirley was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Community Church in Glasgow, former member of the Hillview and current member of the Winchester American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Prairie Land Heritage Museum. She loved to sing at local nursing homes with Glory Bound. She enjoyed painting and spending time with her family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Daws Family Funeral Home in Winchester with internment at Winchester City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to New Community Church or the Winchester EMS.
