William Lloyd Godsil

William L. “Bill” Godsil, 89, of Bluffs passed away, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born, Apr. 22, 1932, in Bluffs, the son of Louis and Aileen Wiess Godsil. He married, Eleanor Owens, Mar. 21, 1957, in Conway, SC. She preceded him in death, Jan. 10, 2016. Surviving are children, Adele (Tim) Gustafson of WI, Kerry Griner of FL, Dawn (Stanley Norris) Godsil of FL, and Kay (Kai) Schnitker of Jacksonville, grandchildren, Chad Gustafson, Kyle Griner, Kelsey Mortenson, Laci Engelbrecht, Corey Mathews, Blake Schnitker and Bryce Schnitker; great grandchildren, Grace and Ryan Gustafson, Royal, Eleanor, Brooks and Eliza Mortenson, Will Mathews and Brady and Katie Engelbrecht; siblings, Paul (Jan) Godsil, Dennis (Kathy) Godsil, Kevin (Sande) Godsil, Marty (Jim) LeMaster and Alana (Terry) Nevenner and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Sandra Miller. Mr. Godsil served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and retired as a naval chief petty officer. After retiring, he and his family returned to Bluffs. He worked and subsequently retired from Oscar Meyer in Beardstown. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluffs and American Legion Post 0441 in Bluffs. He enjoyed golfing, reading, working puzzles and watching baseball. He was a livelong Chicago Cubs fan. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bluffs. Family will meet friends from 1:00 until time of services. Memorials are suggested to Meredosia/Bluffs Rescue Squad.
