Marilyn Jean Whewell

Marilyn Jean Whewell, 75, of Arenzville, IL, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2026. She was born, Apr. 20, 1951, to Walter “Boss” and Elenora Leischner Lovekamp. She married M. Randy Whewell. Randy and Marilyn celebrated 50 years of marriage, Mar. 6, 2026, and shortly after that, Marilyn’s health declined substantially. Surviving is husband, Randy of Arenzville; children, Bethany (Tony) Mital of Rock Island, IL, Rebecca “Becky” Whewell of Virginia, IL and Eric (Tiffany) Whewell of Bartlett, TN; grandchildren, twins, Chase and Mason Mital, Violet Whewell and Karter Whewell and twin sister, Mary Ann (Jerome) Hartley of Pensacola, FL. Confirmation Verse: John 16:23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I will tell you the truth, my father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Marilyn was baptized and confirmed. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir for a time. She graduated 8th grade from Trinity Lutheran School and was in the first class to graduate in 1969 from the new Triopia High School. She attended and graduated from business school in Springfield, IL. Marilyn started working at Norris Hospital then Passavant in the business office. She left after the birth of Rebecca to become a full-time homemaker and dedicated caregiver. With the exception of two years, the family resided on the small farm which has been in her family since 1837. In 2004, she persuaded Randy to build a new house replacing the old one built in 1877. It helped her attend to Becky easier. Marilyn dedicated her life to Jesus and the care of Becky. She enjoyed traveling each year to historical sites and Branson even as she faithfully kept her responsibilities as caregiver. She also took pleasure in attending concerts and watching Hallmark and HGTV channels. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville with interment in Arenzville North Cemetery. A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to Rett Syndrome Association in support of a cure.
