Tamara Ann Leonard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tamara Ann Leonard, 78, of Roodhouse, Illinois, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2026. Born on December 3, 1947, in Hillview, Illinois, Tamara was a beacon of warmth and compassion throughout her life, touching the lives of many with her kindness. Tamara was the daughter of Ross and Margaret Leonard. She was predeceased by her father, Ross Leonard; her mother, Margaret Carter; her eldest son, Gary W. Leonard; her brothers, Randy Surbeck and Larry Leonard; her sisters, Marilyn Gaye Edwards and Diana Borcky; her infant great-granddaughter, Rori Leonard; and two nephews, Michael Nash and Jeffery Edwards. Tamara is survived by her loving family who will continue to honor her legacy: her devoted sons, Craig Leonard (Sue) of Springfield, IL, and John Leonard of Roodhouse, IL; her daughter-in-law, Tamsen Leonard of Edwardsburg, MI; and her seven grandchildren, Amberly Miller (Gabe) of South Bend, IN; Ashlynn Leonard of South Bend, IN; EJ Leonard of Edwardsburg, MI; Taylor Leonard of Elkhart, IN; Kasie Leonard of Hillview, IL; Lauryn Lucas (Drew) of Carterville, IL; and Chloe Leonard of Rochester, IL. She also leaves behind three beloved great-grandchildren, Ronan Miller, Orion Miller, and Grant Housman, along with several nieces and nephews. She attended North Greene High School and then pursued a noble career in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse before earning her degree as a Registered Nurse. Her career at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois, spanned over three decades, during which she provided unwavering support and care to countless patients and their families. Her dedication to her profession was only surpassed by her love for her family, whom she cherished deeply. Tamara was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding light in her life. She was known for her sweet smile and quick wit, making everyone feel at ease and welcome in her presence. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner, and enjoyed engaging in discussions about current events and politics. In honor of Tamara's generous spirit, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart. A private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Tamara's life and legacy. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and shares this thought from Omoakhuana Anthonia: “A life of service is a life well and greatly lived.” Tamara Ann Leonard's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
